The Tournées Festival

THE NEW SEASON IS HERE ! ! !

We would like to invite you to apply for a grant from The Tournées Festival, a program of FACE, designed to help bring contemporary French cinema to your college or university campus.

Presentation

The Tournées Festival was conceived to encourage schools to begin their own self-sustaining French film festivals. Since its inception, the program has partnered with hundreds of universities and made it possible for more than 300,000 students to discover French-language films. The Tournées Festival distributes over $200,000 in grants annually.

Schools that show films in 35mm will continue to receive a grant of $2,300 to show their five films ($460 per film). We hope that this increased amount will be helpful to cover additional expenses incurred in presenting 35mm prints and that it will encourage more universities to show films in that format. Schools that show films on DVD will continue to receive a grant of $1,800 to show their five films ($360 per film).

Schools that show a combination of DVD and 35mm prints will receive a grant corresponding to each film's format.

Please note the two application deadlines: June 30, 2009 for those who wish to program films in the fall semester, and October 1, 2009 for those scheduling their films in the spring semester.

We are delighted to be able to propose a varied selection of films, a wide array of genres, many French co-productions, and films by directors ranging from unique new voices to established figures. We hope you will be inspired by the selection of films and we look forward to receiving your application.

The program is made possible with the generous support of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Centre National de la Cinématographie, the Grand Marnier Foundation, the Florence Gould Foundation, highbrow entertainment and the Franco-American Cultural Fund (Directors Guild of America, Motion Picture Association, SACEM & Writers Guild of America).

The Committee

To promote French-American cooperation, a key mission of FACE and the French Cultural Services, American professors are deeply involved in the selection process, both for the universities and the films.

Three distinguished Americans selected which universities to support:

Dudley Andrew
Professor of Film and Comparative Literature at Yale University
Livia Bloom

Assistant Curator at the Museum of the Moving Image
Sonia Lee

Professor of French and African Literature at Trinity College.

And, every year, Adrienne Halpern, co-founder of Rialto Films, Annette Insdorf, Professor of Graduate Film Studies at Columbia University, Richard Pena, Film Curator at the Lincoln Center, and Jean Vallier, Film Critic, help select the films that are included in the program.

The Application Process

We have two application deadlines:
- June 30
of any given year for those who wish to program films in the fall semester, and
- October 1
of any given year for those scheduling their films for the spring semester.

We hope you will be inspired by our Featured selection,
