While an extreme right-wing
candidate advances to the second ballot of the French presidential
election, a group of young armed robbers flees Paris during
the violent aftermath of the election and holes up in a backwoods
inn located in an old mining wasteland. While trying to escape
the new regime, the group falls into the trap of an even more
dubious ideology. The inn is run by cannibalistic pig farmers
led by an ancient ex-Nazis patriarch still clinging to dreams
of a Fourth Reich. Frontier(s) is a real gore fest
genre movie mixing suspense, sizzling tension, and extreme violence.
It is a full-on tribute to the cult movies of the 70s and 90s,
like Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Sam
Raimi's Evil Dead, Peter Jackson's Brain Dead or Stuart
Gordon's Re-Animator. Despite its low budget, Frontier(s)
shows that it's possible to make an efficient horror movie in
France. Frontier(s) isn't for the faint-hearted though
and the movie culminates in a flabbergasting bloodbath that
raises the bar on gore to new heights…
